All About Me

Playtrain is working in partnership with Birmingham Children’s Hospital to deliver a creative arts project for in-patient child and adolescent mental health patients.

All About Me responds to young people’s requests to do more arts activities and offers a unique opportunity to develop their own creative arts practice. The project aims to empower young people and focus on their talents and abilities, offering a non-clinical outlet for expression, fun and relaxation.

So far young people have produced a short animated film with resident animator from the Lighthouse Media Centre; created large scale Muppet-like puppets and made a series of collographs and photographic still-life portraits. Over the summer, there will be opportunities for young people to work with an interior designer and glass specialist; design and make unique personalised jewellery from found objects; learn felt making techniques with textile artists, create their own music and sound-scapes at Birmingham’s Symphony Hall and visit the unique conservation site, Martineau Gardens, for den building, land art and storytelling.

All About Me has been developed in consultation with the young people and will culminate in an exhibition and sharing at Birmingham Children’s Hospital and other arts spaces in Birmingham. The project has been funded by BBC Children in Need and Arts Council West Midlands.
